What a great little place! We were tired of the chain next door, and decided to try out the marketplace grille- SO happy that we did! Amazing clam chowder, great calamari, wonderful scallops, and fish sand chips to die for!!! Blink and you may miss it, but this spot is definitely something to come back for!!!

I had the worst experience ever. My family and I planned a last minute vacation in Gig Harbor, and just adored it. Marketplace Grille was the first restaurant we went to and we did not like it. The food was good, but the atmosphere, service, and experience weren't. We got there, looked at THE PAPER TAKE OUT MENU and decided the food sounded alright. We were then lead into basically the kitchen on the second side of the awkward layout. It smelled like rotten fish. The view was good but the waitresses were playing a little game of swicheroo. It alters red between two women who were equally nice. There was maybe one other family in there and on a CD PLAYER they were blasting Michael Buble. WHO EVEN LIKES HIM?? My ham sandwich was alright but the fries were burnt which is unfortunate because it took ONE ENTIRE HOUR, SIXTY WHOLE MINUTES TO COME bottom line- no

Stopped for lunch on a quiet Monday. Food was okay, great service, the view is superb. The facility, however, is very rundown. The walls, floor and restroom were very dirty. I may go as far as disgustingly dirty in the restroom. Personally, I feel like it's ok to have the shabby chic thing going as long as it is clean. There is zero excuse for that. What state is the kitchen in, if the rest of the facilities are in this condition?

Overall the ambiance is charming and the view of the harbor is spectacular. Their highly touted clam chowder is way better than Mo's clam chowder in Oregon and any of the bread bowl clam chowder restaurants on the Seattle waterfront. This is the go to place for clam chowder in the Pacific Northwest. I made the mistake of ordering a small chowder, fries, and Caesar salad. Next time I'll know better and order just clam chowder. Mark ordered Caribbean Crab Cakes with Mango Salsa and fresh grilled vegetables which were perfectly done. I felt I missed ordered because Mark's entree was far better that what I selected. For dish aficionados the dishes are authentic Fiesta ware. As we were leaving, I noticed a huge juicy hamburger on the grill. Yum.

I love this little hole in the wall. It isn't much to look at but the view is incredible and the food is amazing. The owners are from Trinidad and are just the sweetest people. You must try this place.

First of all when you first walk in it smells like smoke and dirt. Then you see that the ceiling is covered In dirt and dust. And then it takes forever for them to take your order and takes about an hour to get your food. In our clam chowder we found a bread clip. The food was gross and the restaurant had a bad atmosphere, smell and cleanliness. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Great food, great service, great view. Everything is made to order. I've eaten here three times and haven't been disappointed. Planning on going back many more times.

The food and service here are great. The Clam Chowder is wonderful and could easily be a meal by itself. I had a cup of the chowder and a 3 piece Halibut and Chips which was excellent. My wife had a vegetable pasta salad and she told me it was one of the best salads she has ever eaten. The waitress was friendly and entertaining, if outgoing wait staff bother you, then you probably should take your grumpy old butt to some stuffy highbrow place. All in all, we loved it and will dine here again sometime during our 5 day visit here.

Here's a quaint restaurant located lower gig harbor that you need to try, best fish and chips so far, so says my 14yo, ate the whole plate, had a tropical salad topped with wild salmon, freshest fruit an excellent balsamic and perfectly grilled salmon, it's run by a couple that care for the down home atmosphere and generous portions at a fair price. View of the harbor from the back , very casual no frills atmosphere that will once tasted have you coming back.

Loved the fish and chips and clam chowder. Even the ice tea was good. My only complaint is that it is an odd layout. To have to walk by the open dishwashing area to get to your seat is strange. Also a table full of dirty dishes next to our table. Not pleasant to look at. Plus the windows could use a cleaning. The food though was the best I have had in gig harbor.

Bees knees! Easily the home of one of the best south sound chowders. Incomparable jerk chicken that is cooked with love. This is a perfect restaurant if you are into non chain establishments with amazing customer care and delicious food. :)

Service was great. Maybe because we were the only guest eating tonight. The owner was personal but she needs to find a new cook. I would love to help with a restaurant makeover. They have the location and view down, but the place was dirty, dated, and only had takeout menus. I would easily get over the dirty open kitchen and dated look if the food was amazing; it was almost average and way over priced. $20 for clams that were over cooked and some unopened screams for the need for education. End of the day it wasn't horrible food and it was worth a shot. The potential kills me though! My tip for the owner would be to dine at the green house for an example of how to execute Gig Harbor dinning. Every restaurant deserves a second shot. We will return and try their lunch service.

Arrived in town late in the afternoon and found this restaurant driving around the harbor. We needed a place that was family friendly and the owner and chef were very nice and accommodating. My wife had the jerk chicken...incredible! I had the fish and chips with clam chowder...amazing. My son shared with my wife, he's a spicy food eater and he loved it. I'd recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a good bite to eat and super friendly service.

The #1 place to go in Gig Harbor. Well worth the drive from anywhere in the Puget Sound. Best clam chowder anywhere. I also enjoy their fish n chips. Also a fan of the shrimp and avocado croissant. I've never been disappointed. Great service that even stayed open late for my family.

Had the almond chicken salad. It was fantastic. Very fresh, colorful, and delicious. The service here was excellent, so I agree with all the other reviews about the friendly service and home made taste food. The views of Gig Harbor from the table were a bonus. I would absolutely co.e back and recommend this place to others.

Don't walk but run to this charming family run restaurant! The spicy shrimp avocado salad is out of this world!! We'll be back the next time we're in beautiful Gig Harbor

I wanted to give an outstanding review for the MarketPlace for two reasons. 1. The food was really good all the way around the board. I had the halibut and chips and my wife had the avocado shrimp salad. Both were fantastic. The two others in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. Our food didn't come out lightning fast, but that brings me to second reason I am giving them 5 stars... The restaurant is owned by a husband and wife from Trinidad and Tobago. We were served by the wife and she was awesome. Very witty and attentive. The restaurant is split into two sides and she did a great job waiting on the entire restaurant by herself. I believe the husband was doing the cooking. It was a two man show and they performed beautifully. Our waitress explained to us (after I asked where she was from) that they purchased the restaurant a few years ago after being long time employees. She told us how they learned some tough lessons in the beginning but that they were still kicking and were there to stay. I have a ton of respect for these two. I could tell they have poured blood, sweat and tears into their endeavor and they will succeed because of their dedication. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but I had to do it after seeing how hard these two are working. The fact that the food was excellent is all the better. Wonderful people. Wonderful food. We'll be back!

A real pleasure to meet one of the owners, who was also our waitress. Nice story about how they're in the process of remodeling and re-branding the place. It was a but of a wait for our food (45-minutes or so). But...the women's bathroom was abhorrent! No excuse why a restaurant should have a filthy bathroom. Had we seen this before ordering, we would have politely made our exit. I hope this place makes it, though. I'd come back, but the first thing we'll do is check the bathrooms!

This is an incredible place for lunch in Gig Harbor. Never had dinner there. The food is excellent plus. You might need to be a little patient but the short wait is really worth it. Views from the tables overlooking Gig Harbor made the time pass quickly. This is a must visit restaurant.

Wow impressed by the price and service, view is great even when it rains!! Food is home cooked and excellent! Will be coming back to this restaurant when I am out in this area again!

Wow! I don't know that there are enough positive, descriptive words in the English language to speak to how impressed we are with this place! Mom is here visiting from Wisconsin and we wanted to try to find a decent place for lunch. Since moving to Washington a year ago, the wife and I have been consistently disappointed with EVERY place we've been out to eat at. Some didnt have high hopes today. Talk about a SURPRISE! Wife got the highly acclaimed clam chowder and within one taste, she declared that it was the best chowder she's ever had. Mom got the halibut fish and chips with French fries...and they were amazing. Fries were absolutely delicious. I went with the burger and fries...and it was EASILY the best burger I've had west of the Mississippi! Thoroughly amazed at not only the quality of the food...but our server, Carlene, was super friendly and made the lunch even better. Thank you guys so much and we will be here again and again! Highly...HIGHLY recommend any and all to give MarketPlace grill a shot if you're in the area...

I could LIVE on their Chowder. I took my 2 kids with me for a late lunch and boy, did we leave FULL! Pretty sure we won't eat dinner. Serving sizes were generous for the pricing. My oldest boy had the salmon plate (from the regular menu). Head's up, there ARE bones in it, which was a little difficult for an 8 year old to deal with. But it was delicious. Veggies were a great side, not too seasoned for his young taste buds. My 4 year old had the chicken tenders off the kid's menu and it was a HUGE portion! 3 good sized pieces of chicken and a large pile of fries. He didn't even come close to finishing. I did the fish and chips with a salad and chowder. The salad was pretty straight forward, but the chowder and fish were amazing! Fresh and hot, the fish was crispy and delish, fries were crispy, and the chowder... seriously... to die for!. Couple of caveats: 1) it's a small place, go on "off" hours if you want to get seated quickly, otherwise, try to make a reservation or expect a wait (sometimes even IF you have a reservation) 2) it's family owned and they cook food to order, so if it's busy, it can take a little bit to get fed. 3) since it IS such a small space, other diner's conversations/kids/eating habits WILL affect your meal. If you don't like kids/noisy people/messes/general busy-ness you might not enjoy the ambiance. 4) it has a small open kitchen. You'll see the dishes and smell the food cooking. Personally, I love this, as it gives the place a feeling of hominess that a lot of bigger places seem to have lost. I love that I feel welcomed as a friend every time we go. 5) the view is distracting!

We choose the Market place over Anthony's (next door) and I am must say that I am pleased with my choice. The Staff was friendly from the moment we walked in. Our server was taking our drink order within minutes of us sitting down. I ordered calamari to start with, I was cooked well. I also had the clam chowder (I highly recommend) the veggie pasta salad was great. My guest raved about the fish and chips and salmon salad. The food and service were amazing .

I second Mike M.'s review below. The food was delicious; lots of options and tasted very homemade (what I want in a restaurant!). The restaurant is right on the water which makes for a beautiful view. But what makes the MarketPlace Grille stand out is its service. It was a two-man show when we were there, with one waitress covering all of the tables and her husband cooking in the kitchen. Our waitress was outgoing, personable, and witty, taking the time to chat with us when she undoubtedly had things to do. They have clearly put a lot of work into their restaurant, and it made for a wonderful experience for our family.

It is a local diner with the view. In the cold, rainy November afternoon of WA, we nest in this cozy restaurant at downtown Gig Harbor. The diner is very small, hold only 4 tables, but the waterfront view is given to all customers. It is family run restaurant. The owner is the chef and his sister-in-law works at cashier and serves us food. They are both very friendly. There was a picky customer made few awkward comments to them, but they dealt it properly and professionally. We started with clam chowder. I always thought a bowl of chowder comes from a big steel pot cook on stove all day. Turn out the chef makes it by order. The soup is creamy and light. It is not alike those cooked with too much potato that turns soup to stew. We also ordered steam clam and Caesar salad with home made dressing. Both are very flavorful and good choice for light afternoon meal. Since there is Jerk Pork/Chicken on menu, we ordered it to go. Chef has his own Jerk sauce recipe and its flavor is definitely Caribbean style. Meat portion is generous. Both pork and chicken were cooked in perfection. I suggest order rice so it soaks the sauce better. We were very much satisfied with their food and hospitality despite its higher than average cost. We will definitely return to try more dishes.

It took 10 minutes for our water to arrive. One person working all tables and one person cooking. The food and service don't deserve the view they have. Won't be going back.

We had a reservation. When we showed up a few minutes early we were asked to leave, because they were not ready for our party of 6. We asked why, and were told that they just sat down a party of 14. We decided to walk around town for a half hour then come back like they had asked. As we walked back to the restaurant I noticed another family entering the restaurant, wondering if THEY would be asked to wait, or leave, like we were. When we got back they shoved a couple of ROUND tables together and told us THIS was our RESERVED table! Away from the windows, in a stuffy corner. The family that walked in before us was given our RESERVED table with the view, next to the window. I will never go back. I have no clue how the food is... This was just flat out rude, and wrong.

Came to this hidden gem in Gig Harbor for the first time today. The service was outstanding- the owners were also our chef and server. Extremely friendly and made you feel like home. The clam chowder was some of the best I have ever had- I also had the chicken and Swiss sandwich with fresh cut potatoes. Everyone in my party was extremely satisfied with their meals. The inside of the restaurant is small but you cannot beat the view. I love that they use Fiesta ware for all of their plates. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town.

Warm & friendly. Fantastic view. Like Ming Z. we ventured in on a cold & rainy afternoon. The view and wonderful food were just what we were looking for. It is a small space so I imagine in the Summer the place will be booked up.

WOW, I had not been here for a long time...the menu has really expanded! I read the reviews and wanted to try something new. I tried the Peppered Prawn Salad AND a bowl of clam chowder as well. Boy there is enough to save for later! The salad was extraordinary, the two dressings combined and the salad had avocados fresh sliced strawberries and some grapes and fresh rasberries and EVEN small baby oranges or tangerine slices. The dressing is amazing and the prawns are succulent tender tasty and slightly spicy...truly amazing! Everyone raves about the clam chowder so I definitely needed to get that too! It is creamy, fresh, tender clams, everything you could possibly want from clam chowder the BEST! I will definitely be back.

Stopped in for lunch. Sat at a table overlooking the water. Shared the halibut fish & chips and we each had a bowl of clam chowder. Couldn't eat it all but wished we could because it was soooo good!!! Both were OUTSTANDING! Staff was very friendly & nice. Wasn't fancy but was just perfect for us! Great food, great view & great service!!!

Good food, good view. If you want presses table cloths and assembly line entrees, then go next door to Antony's Home Port. The fact that these guy have been in business as long as they have right next door to a juggernaut like Antony's Home Port tells you they must be doing some thing right.

This review is a couple weeks late! My husband, toddler, and I happened upon this place thinking we would dine at Anthony's next door, however they were closed. Lucky us, we walked into MarketPlace Grille! We had no expectations, it looks like your run of the mill lunch diner, but we were pleasantly surprised. The owners, Carlene (our waitress) and Richard (the cook), were so friendly and warm. I ordered the chicken salad and my husband ordered the jerk pork, both were great! My salad was very fresh and delicious and my husband's pork & sweet potatoes were to die for! The sauce is one of a kind, the flavor is delicious! We happily chatted with the couple listening to reggae and enjoying our meal. They were especially kind to our little one and made us feel right at home...and oh yea, there is a great view of the harbor! If you're a foodie looking for something different, try this place...you won't be disappointed!

This place is cute, rustic, friendly. We had a view of the water from our seat. The menu looks great and while I think the level of quality is probably pretty high over all I guess I just like my halibut a little more dressed up. I had a grilled halibut sandwich served on a nice soft roll, the menu says it has a great dill dressing on it. I couldn't taste it. Halibut is a pretty plain tasting fish in itself and my sandwich was too. My dining partner had a burger and fries and was pleased.

Tiny little restaurant that only has about 5 tables but an incredible view of the harbor. If you are looking for a little get-away to grab some breakfast, this is the place to go. Their beer selection is pretty sparse so I'd avoid for lunch or dinner but if you want an omelet or scrambled eggs, this will do the trick. The waitress was very nice and easy on the eyes. She was also very helpful in recommending other activities in Gig Harbor. Food was good well priced. During the summer, if they had service on the patio it would be way cooler.

    (4)
  • Katrina H.

Don't bother. Really. I asked the cook if the halibut was in season, got a sniffy response that he always bought it fresh. I think not. I bought a halibut sandwich to go, as the tiny restaurant was crammed. The sandwich came with about 1.5 ounces of overcooked, not-fresh fish that floated on an enormous bun. The sandwich was fishy and tough. The "crisp" fries were cooked dark-brown in oil that should have been changed long ago. They, too, were fishy--and soggy and bad. I was sad to have wasted an empty belly and beautiful day on this poor restaurant. If you want great, consistently well-prepared food, go right next door to Anthony's. Yes, it's a chain (which is why I thought I'd try the Grille) but it's terrific.

I grew up in Gig Harbor and visited the marketplace grille a few times during high school with my parents. Fast forward 5 years. I decided to take my girlfriend there to show her great gig harbor food. That was a mistake. My girlfriend and I wear wearing flip flops because of the 73 degree weather. As soon as we walked into the restaurant the waiter looked down at our feet with disgust. When he came to take our order, he asked my girlfriend to keep her feet under the table so others were not able to see them. Is this guy crazy! We were there on a saturday for lunch. This restaurant is by no means a classy establishment. It is more of a back room fish shack. The food is good but the ownership is horrendous. We left immediately following the rude comment and I will never return.

I found this restaurant on restaurant.com and bought the gift certificate. They had a kid's menu that was ALL Sponge Bob (of which my son is a fan and he is a picky eater.) We go in and we are seated in what is a decent dining room. Clean, not at all fancy like they make you think on the website. First thing the waiter says is "Sorry for staring at her chest, but her tattoo is beautiful." to my boyfriend. UMMMMM, if you feel the need to apologize for staring, you can say it to ME. I let it go because I wouldn't have a tattoo there if the attention to it would bother me. I ordered my sandwich different then how it was on the menu (because I TOO am a picky eater) and he was seemingly annoyed so I said, "Don't worry, I usually tip well." He made some other rude comment with an eye roll to my boyfriend. The food came out and it was great and we made certain he knew that we were very happy with the food. My son spilled a little bit of his lemonade when the waiter came out with his refill and the waiter IMMEDIATELY grabbed his napkin and cleaned it off of my son's chair! (Ever heard of someones bubble??) We apologized for the spill and the waiter then said "You should leave it on the table." He then brings my son a bendy straw and tried to take his normal one. My kid = said "I want both." and the waiter hesitated but left it there. I took the bill and the waiter then said "Oh she's a wise woman for paying." I just kinda raised my eyebrow at that not really sure WHAT he meant but I am assuming it was in regards to the fact that I was being particular. (Also, he seemed like a bit of a control freak and chauvinist.) We finished, said thank you, and left. We were across the street in the parking lot and he runs up behind us (YES, IN THE PARKING LOT) and said something. We turned around and I said Excuse me?" Him - "You said you were a good tipper. You only left me $5.00 and 18% is $7.25. The certificate says 18% is added and I left it off because you said you were a good tipper." Me - "Well, I wasn't really happy with some of your statements Next time you should apologize to me and not my boyfriend, I guess." Him - something else illegible. What I wanted to do was lay in to him. "First of all 18% of the FOOD that we ate was 6.69 and I left 6.00. Second of all, how DARE YOU tell MY SON ANYTHING and get in his personal SPACE. He's 6!! 6 year olds spill and WE could have and WOULD have cleaned up his chair this is NOT the #(&!! Canlis!! There are holes in the wall, it smells like grease and looks like a shack. I figure the 1% I kept from my tip was MY TIP for not telling him off for his utterly RUDE behavior. It was sad because the food was GREAT! My son even stated that the fries were outstanding. P.S. My hair still smells like grease.

This is a good as it gets! You must first understand the type of restaurant this is. It's mom & pop small hole in the wall restaurant. Your not gonna get what you would at El Gaucho as far as service & decor. Although, the view is amazing. This is mine and my husband's favorite restaurant because we get AMAZING food, friendly service, and a relaxing view of the harbor. We can take our time and feel like we are at someone's home eating dinner. The food is not disappointing!

While this place is small and service is a bit slow, the food my fiance and I enjoyed a few weeks ago was full of flavor. I had the Cuban-Style Hamburger which was quite tasty. My fiance had the Parmesan Scallops which he said were tasty too. However, our absolute favorite from our visit was the clam chowder! It was amazing! I think next time we go in we will both just get the chowder because it was better than the entrees. The view was nice and helped to make the place not seem so small.

This is MY FAVORITE restaurant in Gig Harbor. I live here and eat out all the time and it is the first restaurant I recommend. Everything I order is delicious. The owners are a great team and they are wonderful. The food is fresh and I love their Paella, calamari, salads, burgers etc., etc. It is a very small hole in the wall type restaurant, but the food is my favorite. Liked: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Value

This has really become my favorite place in Gig Harbor. The food is great and the service is just really nice. I don't know for sure, but my impression is that this is a family run place but a couple from Jamaica (their specialty is the Jamaican Jerk Chicken though don't worry, there is a lot more on the menu). It is a bit of a dive-y place inside, but has a spectacular view. You sit very close to the other patrons so it can be a little weird to have a personal conversation if you are self-conscious like me. But I still love this place. The food really is good and the service is so friendly and personable like some others have said. I just feel good when I go here - I don't have to dress up for a fancy place but still get some really good food at a decent price. Everything on the menu is available all day, too.

My friend and I had lunch here today for the first time. It is a very small restaurant but the food was excellent. We each had an Almond Chicken Salad and the lettuce was very fresh, the chicken was well seasoned, and it had fresh strawberries, raspberries (in January, yet!), and tangerines. The dressing was very flavorful. The view of the harbor was very relaxing. I saw several different dishes that were served while we ate and would love to come back to try many of them!

The location is great and the service friendly. The food is pretty good. The fish and chips blow the doors off the Tides. I think this is going to become our go to place. I'd give it 4 stars if not for the fact that it seems overpriced for what it is.

First of all, I do not like salads......but I LOVE the salads here!! The Pepper Prawn Salad with Coconut vinaigrette dressing absolutely ROCKS! The Cuban Style sandwich is a winner, and the paella is pretty good too, although I taste more curry than saffron. Still, the platings are all light, colorful and cheery...very Caribbean, which is no surprise since the chef is from Trinidad. Not a huge dining room, but a gorgeous view of the harbor. Visit once and I am pretty certain you will become a regular....I have!

  • Barbara B.

The view was nice and the chowder was decent, but otherwise I was not Impressed. It was cold inside. They were out of fish & chips. It took an HOUR to get our food (a salad and burger). I had the peppered prawn salad which had a lot of super sweet canned fruit on it which was just not tasty. Husband had a burger (he had wanted fish and chips) and said it was only ok. Also, it is a small space with a open kitchen so you smell like fried food when you leave. Not a pleasant experience.

On our way through Gig Harbor, we were starving and used trusty yelp to find Marketplace Grille. The owner who greeted and served us was absolutely lovely. She informed us that they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day :) The menu had vegetarian options, some Caribbean flavors, and seafood sandwiches/entrees. I split from my vegetarian ways & had a shrimp and avocado croissant and my husband, turkey & swiss. Whilst enjoying the view, we sipped on raspberry lemonade and iced tea. Only complaint is that the shrimp were popcorn size and it wasn't what I expected; not a popcorn shrimp girl (they always remind me of scary grocery store salads). The fries were dElish and I hate potatoes. Overall, good food, wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Great food and friendly service. The walls in the dining area could have used a fresh coat of paint, but the tables were clean and the view of Gig Harbor was beautiful. I ordered the Halibut Fish & Chips. I could tell the fries were hand cut and the halibut fresh. Even the water was tasty, as they had several lemons and some other citrus fruit floating in the countertop 'tank'.

Had the clam chowder and crab cakes. The clam chowder was yummy with fresh clams. Crab cakes were ok. It seemed like more filler than crab but it was tasty. We seemed to be ignored after awhile. Our server didn't check if our food was good nor did we get refills on tea or soda.

Wonderful! Every seat has a beautiful view of the harbor! The food is delicious! Service is friendly! They call it American and Seafood, but I think they also have a Carribean flair here and there. The cafe is small, but I don't think of it as too big a problem. Clam chowder is award-winning!

Very nice people and an excellent view. I like a hole in the wall as much as the next person, but the food has to be up to par. The clam chowder was heavy on the cream and lacking in clams. The oysters were slightly greasy, burnt on one side and lacked flavor. The fries were good, but the fish breading lacked flavor. The kitchen was a mess with a lot of clutter. There was no room for the cook to plate. The dining area was dirty and our table was a rocking table. I felt slightly sick to my stomach that evening. I don't think we will be going back anytime soon.

We read all of the great reviews and tried the Marketplace Grill today. We were pretty unimpressed. The food was average especially for the prices being charged.

I would give a half star if i could, and thats only because it does have a nice view. i have no idea how this place could have gotten the good reviews that it did, unless maybe everyone else got to go somewhere else. my family and i came here for mothers day lunch, party of 6 and one of those is my 2 year old toddler, so basically this was a party of 5. my husband called in advance to move our reservatipn back by a half hour, and was assured that they could accomodate even though the manager gafe him a bit of a guilt trip about it. when we arrived there was a total of one other part besides us...otherwise the restaurant was completely empty. another party arrived maybe 15 minutes later, otherwise the place was empty. imagine that in all caps...my phone is just acting up and not letting me capitalize.... first, let me say something about the atmosphere, which could be best described as dirty diner / greasy spoon. when you walk in, you go past the back area, open to full view complete with the waitress washing a pile of dirty dishes. the galley kitchen is next in line before you get to the seating...we were actually put across the hall in a seperate space that looks like it was recently a coffee shop. it was dirty, and had piles of debris at the front...best case scenario they might be contemplating starting renovations or aomething, but there were piles of stuff lying around. on to the food....we ordered 2 omelettes, 2 fish and chips with 2 cups of chowder, and a burge...thats it. an hour later, we hadn't received anything other than a refill on our sodas. i went up and asked about our chowders...the waitress started to apologize about the wait, but the manager actually interrupted her to tell me, with an attitude, that their cook can't be rushed, and that this wait was our fault for moving our reservation by a half hour. wow. we should have left at that point, but we'd already invested an hour of our time, and my dad really wanted to give them a chance because their reviews were so good. the food finally arrived about a hald hour later...the clam chowder was good, but everything else was average at best. our fish and chips were ok, but pretty greasy and the fries were limp. my husband and my dad's omelettes were pretty bad, and both were still hungry when we left. by the time we left, the only other party in the restaurant still hadn't gotten their food and were headed up front to complain...we overheard the cook telling them he'd get to their food when he had a chance. pretty safe bet that no one in either group will ever go back.

Dirty, bad service, gross. Don't waste your time or money. There were only 10 people in the place and it took over an hour to get food. We had to get up and go ask for refills on our drinks. You'll have better luck at 7 Eleven.

The view is unbeatable as you're right on the water looking out over Gig Harbor Bay and Mt Rainier. The food is excellent, both from the kids' menu and for the adults. The wild salmon salad is the best meal available in Gig Harbor, and for $12 it's not a steal but it's not bad, either. The service is hit and miss, and the dining area is tiny and a bit cramped feeling. The dining area could really use some updating as well, as it's a bit dirty feeling. If you want a great meal and a great view, well worth it!

Mediocre food. I had Ivar's fish and chips earlier in the week and it was WAY better. The halibut fish and chips was dry and overcooked. The clam chowder had oil floating on the surface. Stay away unless you don't mind overpaying for mediocre food.

Small portions, overpriced, out of many items, drafty, uncomfortable seating. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a coupon. We had purchased a $50 value for $25. They must have tailored the meal to be $25 or less because of this. Friendly owner waited on us and nice wall heater in bathroom to warm up. Will not be returning.

Star #1 for the amazing view. Star #2 for the good breakfast sandwich and potatoes Star #3 for the available parking across the street Star #4 for the cute grannies in the corner that were flirting with my boyfriend

Great service, absolutely amazing food. I enjoyed it much more than Anthony's, although space is more restricted. I've tried fish and chips, salmon salad, steamed clams and clam chowder. Also, wonderful view of Rainier on clear days.

Went there last night. Highly recommended. Don't go there for the ambiance, go there for the food! It was outstanding! Clam chowder was great, coconut prawns were good and the calamari was delicious. No wine list just very house wines. Tell Caroline from Tobago to keep dancing! She was awesome!

Great place. We call down often for take-out. Fish and chips are awesome but, I think the Asian chicken salad is our favorite. Always fresh and very tasty. I'm not sure if we've ever sat down and eaten there....but, lots of take out orders and we'll continue to go.

Kind of a little hole in the wall place near Anthonys in Gig Harbor. Food was fantastic. I had Halibut fish and chips really good, fries were good too. Julie had a Grilled Halibut sandwich very good. Becca had a Hot Turkey sandwich that was fantastic. The atmosphere was a little scary. Had a decent selection of beer,(all bottled).

Forget Anthony's, come here. The couple is from Trinidad and serve up some awesome ethnic food. I had the jerk chicken and so good. We had a little table with a great view. The place isn't fancy, it's casual but the food and view rock. Enjoy!

Been here a few times and I have not been disappointed. Love the salmon salad- it's delicious and refreshing. The view is gorgeous and the service friendly. I'd probably change out the way the seating is because it's a bit cramped. Otherwise, I'd recommend this place.

The decor reminded me of an old fashioned New York luncheonette; nothing fancy but functional. We were greeted warmly by a friendly waitress. We ordered the steamed clams which were perfect, not overcooked and the broth was so good we asked for soup spoons! The home made smoked salmon spread was delicious but would have tasted better if the bread were made like a crostini. We ordered the vegetable and pasta salad which was made with fresh vegetables and romaine lettuce, the pasta was al dente so it held the dressing well and the dressing was subtle enough to bring out the flavors of the salad but not over powering . Really good! Don't miss this gem!

This place is a great find. We stopped here after reading some other Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent; we arrived near closing time and they were still happy to seat us and prepare fresh dishes for us. Best clam chowder, best battered halibut, best fresh salmon salad we've ever had. Prices are not cheap, but are fair. Place is small with just a few tables, so feel honored if you are able to get a seat. Best view of the harbor.

Nice location. Good service. Halibut fish and chips had more breading than fish. Very good home made chips.

My wife and I went here because of the reviews. As we walked in we were escorted to our table walking by a dirty kitchen and a filthy grill area. I lost my appetite as I walked by. After reading the reviews about their clam chowder I had to try it. I was disappointed, the clam chowder was burnt, salty, way too thick and had very few clams. I added a star because my wife enjoyed the grilled flavor of her burger. Service was good. view of Gig Harbor is fabulous. We noticed they have an additional sitting area on the otherside of a hallway. I strongly suggest they clean there grill area and kitchen and start sitting guest in the additional sitting area only.

I knew that Gig Harbor had good ambience and a lot of tourists. I did not expect to find this all too hidden place with a variety of food that is tied together by fresh, simple taste. As the previous post indicates, fish and chips is an excellent choice. If you like spice, the jerk chicken or the pepper prawn salad is excellent. I recommend anyone in the area (or even in Seattle to drive up the road to try this place. The prices are excellent, making the trip actually economical from the city.

This little restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is fabulous!!!! My husband and I always bring our out of town guests to this place for their clam chowder. It is literally the best clam chowder i have ever had!!! there is a small water front sitting area and if it weren't for Stephanie who runs the place you might not think much of the decor. But you got to to eat and EVERYTHING that we have eaten from there has been great. My husband will recommend the fish and chips and any of the burgers. I love the clam chowder and their sandwiches. Not so hot on the breakfast menu but everything else is great!! The pricing is good too! We just took another couple there as guess and the entire bill was under $70. I almost didn't want to yelp them because I like it not being too crowded when we go!!!

We LOVE this place. Great food, great service, great view! The staff is really friendly. I love the pepper prawn salad so much and the salmon spread is to die for! We love bringing people here. We live in Tacoma and it is worth the trip across the bridge!!

This was the worst customer service at a restaurant that I've had in a verrry long time! My family went here after church one Sunday about a couple of months ago. We were the only ones there around 1pm, not a good sign. The young lady there seemed to be the hostess who seated us, the waitress and the busylady all rolled into one. Maybe this was her problem. Anyway, we ordered several items of which I'm afraid I cant remember at this time but one was a veggie omelet. All the food was pretty good as I recall, and the view was excellent, and we sat next to the window. The main problem was that our toddler was having a "terrible two's" moment and spilled his water. This waitress actually gave us an attitude over cleaning it up and sighed and acted mad while she was cleaning up the water! She obviously had no customer service training at all. Of course we were apologizing left and right as we always try to be nice everywhere we go, but that wouldnt change her attitude. You can imagine our horror when our child did it again!! This waitress did other rude things like say "are you ready to order yet" with an irritated look and "will there be anything else?" of course with a look that said "gosh i cant wait for these people to leave." Yes it's just one lady causing all this and not the whole place, but what does this say about a restaurant who would hire someone like this or allow her to continue to do this? If the manager knows what's good for her, she will straighten this out. We may consider coming back one day AFTER the lady either learns how wrong that was to treat us that way OR after she's gone.

Great fish 'n chips, and very family friendly. Sat us on the left side of the diner with it's own seperate entrance. Perfect for my four crazy monkeys, we had the entire room to ourselves. Our server was sweet, but seemed busy. The kiddos loved the "krabby patties", and their portions were huge. We were sat right in front of the window, with a great view of the harbor. It could use some updating, but the "family friendly" part will bring us back again.

Okay. I finally made it down here thanks to the gentle prodding of a couple of dear co-workers of mine who also happen to be fellow yelpers. The waitress was kind enough to clear the table next to the window so we could have a better view while eating, so good service. Since the clam chowder was highly recommended I wanted to make sure that I tried it and its as good as everyone says. Here is a tip: if you want to try the chowder but want to make sure you have room for your main dish, order a sample of chowder. It is just the right size to go with whatever entree you order. I went with the halibut fish and chips, DW went for the shrimp sandwich. Both were fine. I would say that overall, this is a pretty good place to eat a nice lunch and enjoy a view of the harbor. Nothing about this place really jumped out at me as anything to really write home about, save for the chowder. However, I think a second visit is warrented, to try some other items on the menu that looked good.

My husband and I had a coupon for this restaurant so we decided to try it. First off the atmosphere is terrible. The restaurant was stuffy and smelled like a fryer. They have a small room with a few tables and a nice view of the water but none of the windows opened. It would have been nice, on a sunny day like today, if the windows could have been opened to have a fresh breeze come thru and cleanse the deep fried smell of the restaurant. Considering the prices the restaurant should have had nicer menus. Their menus were paper and looked like take out menus. The food was good but overpriced. My husband had pan fried oysters which came with 5 smallish oysters, some old dried looking mashed potatoes, and grilled vegetables. For $19.99 the meal should have come with either soup, salad, or more oysters. I wanted steak but they were out, which was ridiculous considering it was only 4:00. So I had the cuban burger instead which was okay but also overpriced. The highlights of the meal were the raspberry lemonade and string french fries that came with my burger. We won't be going there again because there are still plenty of other restaurants in Gig Harbor to try.
